Improving Transparency: How Apex Gaming PCs Fixed Its Product Image Approach

You Asked, We Listened: Accurate Product Images at Apex Gaming PCs

At Apex Gaming PCs, we’ve always looked for ways to push the boundaries of creativity and technology—whether in the systems we build or the way we showcase them. In 2024, part of that experimentation included dabbling with AI-generated images.

AI in Website Backgrounds

Our team explored AI image generation to design unique and eye-catching backgrounds for our website. These experiments were purely artistic in nature, and the goal was to develop cool, immersive visuals to match the gaming experience our PCs deliver.

It’s important to emphasize that at no point were our product photos ever AI-generated. All AI-generated images were used for either landing or splash pages. Every product image that you’ve seen tied directly to our PCs has either been photographed or rendered by our team.

Community Feedback and Our Response

We also want to acknowledge that not everyone liked the direction we were experimenting with. The community’s feedback made it clear that the AI-generated backgrounds were not well received. We regret that, and we promptly removed those images.

One of the most important pieces of feedback we received was that customers should be able to see the exact product they are getting. We wholeheartedly agree with that. Since then, we’ve worked hard—and continue to work hard—to keep our product renders and photos updated as quickly as possible.

Moving to Human-Made Renders

Feedback from community members, including Braethorn, highlighted how essential it is that product images are accurate. In response, we shifted toward rendering our products in-house. These renders are created by Apex Gaming PCs employees—not AI. This allows us to:

  • Update the appearance of PCs quickly when parts change.

  • Ensure that the images resemble the actual delivered models closely.

  • Maintain consistency across our catalog.

While rendered images are not photographs, they are handcrafted by our team with accuracy and detail in mind. This shift has allowed us to make major strides toward ensuring that what customers see online is what they receive.

That said, we know we’re not perfect. There are times when products must change quickly—such as when a specific part is no longer available. In those cases, we work hard to update renders in as little as a week, or even in advance whenever possible, to keep our visuals aligned with reality.

Limited AI Use Going Forward

We want to be transparent: we do still sometimes use AI-generated backgrounds for icons or small supporting visuals. However, these are never used for primary product photos or landing page images. Anything representing an Apex Gaming PC directly is either a human-made render or a photograph.

Using Manufacteur Photos

We would also like to set the record straight: Apex Gaming PCs has never used manufacturer stock photos, as was claimed. The photos in question were taken by our own team and later provided to Manik Inc. (Manik) at their request, so they could showcase their products in action on their website.

Our Commitment

We’re committed to learning from feedback, and we appreciate the community holding us accountable. AI will continue to play a small role in creative experimentation at Apex Gaming PCs, but our product representations will always be human-made. Our goal is simple: when you look at a PC on our website, you can trust it’s the same PC that will arrive at your door.
